According to IMG Action Sports on June 11, 2013, Vans will present itself as title sponsor of the U.S. Open of Surfing from July 20 to July 28. Included in this agreement includes both men’s and women’s events under the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour, as well as hosting the ASP Pro Juniors for the next generation of both men and women.
Hosted in Huntington Beach, California the sponsorship will include the activation of skateboarding and BMX contests titled, “The Van Doren Invitational” featuring a $130K total prize purse. Also, Vans will present the Van Doren Village which features the world’s largest photo booth, a Van’s titled art exhibit, the Van Doren Kitchen where event goer’s can enjoy BBQ with meet and greets from Steve Van Doren himself through the eight day event, and other attractions such as autograph signings, DJs, giveaways, movie nights and a film premiere.
All of these events will be free and open to the public as well as being viewed daily via webcast at www.vansusopenofsurfing.com and the U.S Open Mobile App. Over the past two years, viewership records have been broken back-to-back and capping of last year’s momentum with over 1.5 million+ viewers expects this to grow even more on a worldwide scale this year.
The fellow sponsors apart of the Van’s U.S. Open of Surfing include Simple Mobile, Fiat, Paul Mitchell Salon Hair Care, Casio G-Shock & G’zOne, Pacifico, Red Bull (which is the world tour sponsor AKA the Red Bull Signature Series), iON Cameras, 7-Eleven and Trans World Media.
